Things to Think About

Did you know that when a person is approved for Social Security Disability they don’t get benefits the 1st five months they are disabled, and then they have to wait two more years to get medicare benefits?

Does this seem fair? No, it isn’t fair, or right. But that is the way the Federal law works.

Think about this also — if you lose your job because you are disabled, you may not be able to get State Unemployment Benefits, because you may not be able to say you are available to work. That means a disabled person can’t get unemployment benefits, but a person who gets fired for not doing their job right can.

Does this seem fair, or right? I don’t think so. I have brought these issues up for years, but I can’t change Federal or State Laws on my own. I hope there is a change someday.
